Teasers 1-6 of The Road (The Road to Hell Series, Book 3)

Teaser #1 from The Road:
“It’s… it’s…” Her voice trailed off, and her fingers trembled as she stretched them out to settle them on the bark. Blue sparks shot across the tips of her fingers and her eyes closed. “It’s amazing,” she breathed.
I glanced between her and the tree as she stepped closer and rested her forehead against it. Lifting her forehead, her head tipped back to peer into the thick bowers above her. The leaves of the tree fluttered as if stirred by a breeze, but no wind moved through here.
I strode forward to pull her away. I’d seen what these trees could do when provoked, but before I could get to her, one of the lower branches swung out and dipped toward her.
“River, get away!” I shouted.
You can pre-order your copy now for only $2.99. The price will be going up after release.

Teaser #5 from The Road (The Road to Hell Series, Book 3). Only 4 more days until release!
“This is…” Corson’s words trailed off as he stared at the slab before us.
My eyebrows drew together as my eyes were drawn back to the rock. Taking a step closer, I tried to see more of the rock, but I saw nothing marking it as anything other than what it appeared to be.
I may not be able to see anything special about it, but the skelleins weren’t bringing their torches any closer as they stared at it. Corson and Bale flanked Kobal, and the look of amazement on their faces mirrored the one Magnus wore.
Despite its innocuous faรงade, my fingers itched to touch it as I sensed power washing off it. I remained unmoving with the others as the crackling fire of the torches became the only sound within the tunnel.
Their flames cast shadows all around us, and for the first time, I realized the shadows that had slithered and danced throughout Hell didn’t surround us anymore.
“What is it?” I whispered.
“The entrance to Hell,” Kobal murmured as his gaze ran over the rock.

Teaser #6 from The Road (The Road to Hell Series, Book 3).
I closed my hand and pulled it away from the hole. The energy I’d been borrowing from the Earth and Kobal flowed back into its sources. The shadows of Hell rushed forward once more to fill in the space my blood had cleared, obscuring the depths we’d just been able to see.
Kobal jerked me back and jumped in front of me when the shadows leapt from the pit and snapped toward me. A hair-raising snarl tore from him as he bared his fangs at the shadows. This time I was certain the shadows hissed before they swiftly retreated into the hole to slither over the top of each other like a pit of snakes.
“Well, shit,” Hawk muttered, and Vargas kissed his cross again.
“They can’t do anything to you,” Corson said.
“What are they?” Erin inquired.
“Hell shadows,” Corson answered. “Unlike your shadows, they can move of their own free will, but they are unable to touch you.”
I edged away from the hole, determined to stay upright and strong, but my knees gave out on my third step. Kobal swept me up and into his arms before I could hit the ground and firmly braced me against his chest. Draping my arms around his neck, I pressed against him as tremors racked my body.
His breath warmed my ear. “Easy, Mah Kush-la. I have you.”
As Kobal turned to walk away, I caught the concerned looks Corson and Bale exchanged with each other. Erin, Vargas, and Hawk were pale, but hope shimmered in their eyes for the first time in weeks.
My gaze slid to the pit. I wanted to feel hopeful too, but I felt like I’d just completed a triathlon.
It will be better tomorrow. I told myself this, but I wasn’t convinced.

Updates on releases!

*****UPDATES*****
Hi everyone! I thought it was time to give some updates on future plans and what I've been working on. It's been a long time since I have and I wanted you to know that things are going to be changing a little.
For 2017 I plan to focus more on my Brenda K. Davies pen name. For the past four years, I've been more focused on my Erica Stevens pen name as I had more ideas for stories that would fit better under that name, but at this time ideas have swung the other way.
At this point, I had planned to be further ahead in my writing and future works than I am right now, but these past 5 months or so have been extremely hectic as we all know life can be. Which means that plans for releases have changed.
The Road and Fractured will both still be coming out in January. I had originally planned to have Into Hell (The Road to Hell Series, book 4) out in March/April, but I recently realized I was never going to make this goal without putting a lot of stress on myself in order to do so, and that I still might not make it. Since my doctor has recommended reducing stress and I know my husband would love it if I did, I took a step back to rethink my plan for things.
This was not an easy decision for me to make as this was not my plan for this series at all, but I have not had the time to focus on my writing that I had hoped these past months. However, there is good news!
Since I knew I would not be able to make my goal with Into Hell, I decided to put it aside to work on Ronan's story. Why you ask? Well because I already had about 60,000 words in a manuscript I started YEARS ago written. I realized a while ago that this manuscript would work well for his story. It needs a major overhaul, but I'm about halfway through the first rewrite of it and have it up to almost 80,000 words already! It still needs a lot of work and of course edits, but whereas I never would have gotten Into Hell done, I should be able to have Ronan's story AKA Eternally Bound (The Alliance, Book 1) out in March/April. :)
So what does this mean for The Road to Hell Series? It means it's just getting pushed back a little. I will be happily diving back into Into Hell soon. I am hoping to have it out in May/June. Into Hell will most likely be the end of River and Kobal's major story arc. However, when I originally started this series, I planned to do a spin off of it. The spin off would have each book in the series focusing on a different character, but now I'm unsure if I will do a spin off or if the series will continue after book 4 with each following book focusing on a different character.
I'm undecided if a continuation would be easier or better because of the vast amount of mythology in this series, and how much the secondary characters come into play as the series progresses. I will figure this out more as I work through Into Hell and will decide which will be the easier/better way to go.
There will also be more books in the Vampire Awakening Series! :) I'm hoping to do a crossover between Vicky and a character that will be introduced in Ronan's story. I think the two of them will make for an interesting love/hate combo! Aiden will definitely be getting his own story and after writing David's story, I'm thinking novellas for the other Stooges will be fun!
Between some health concerns (nothing major, but I'd like to keep it that way), losing loved ones, realizing it's time to spend more time on keeping me healthy, and with my family, I've decided to take my doctor's advice to try to reduce stress. The first step in this is that on December 1st, I will be bringing someone in to help me with my pages, book club, and other things. I will still be interacting, posting things, and replying to you, but Jamie Davis will be helping me make things more fun and allowing me more time to focus on writing. You will ALWAYS know if it's me or Jamie responding to you. Some of you may already have the good fortune of knowing Jamie, but if you don't, I know you're going to love her! She is a lot of fun and has some amazing book recommendations!
Thank you all for your continued support, kind words, and understanding, it means the world to me. <3 I'm looking forward to all that 2017 has to bring and can't wait to share even more stories with you!

Teasers and Excerpts from Carved

Teasers and Excerpts from Carved (The Road to Hell Series, Book 2)

Excerpt 1:

“What has drawn you in here, River?” I inquired, my voice reverberating within the cavernous building.
“I’m not sure if anything has.” She removed her hand from mine as she picked her way carefully forward.
I followed her as she moved past the shattered remains of a couple of pews poking out from the rubble. She walked to the altar covered in wood and rotting shingling from the roof. Her frown deepened as she focused on the stained-glass window of an angel tucked behind and to the right of the altar. The angel’s blonde head was tipped back to the sky, her hands clasped in prayer and her green eyes vibrant in the sunlight filtering through the window.
“It looks like the figurine you have in the truck,” I remarked.
“It does,” she murmured. Her head tilted to the side as she seemed to be straining to hear or see something within the shadows and cobwebs hanging in what remained of the rafters. Rays of sunlight streamed through the stained-glass window, causing multiple colors to play over her tanned complexion and caressing her body in an almost loving manner.
In that moment it seemed the world was as deeply connected to River, as she was to it. She’d said the loss of her bond to the earth and all things living would break her, turn her into something evil like Lucifer, and I believed her. I couldn’t feel her connection to life and the world around her, but I knew the bond I felt with the hounds, how intricate a piece of me it was, and what it would do to me if it was ever severed. I wouldn’t risk doing anything to her that could possibly destroy her link to the earth.

Excerpt 2:

Why did Corson bring us here of all places? I strained to see past the blinds, but I couldn’t make out what was moving beyond them.
“Your guns won’t work on what’s inside.” All of our heads shot toward Corson as he uttered these words.
“Why does that not sound reassuring?” Erin asked.
“It’s not meant to be,” Corson replied.
“What are we walking into?” I demanded.
“Nothing deadly. It won’t be pleasant inside, but there most likely won’t be any humans or demons in there.”
I didn’t think any part of this journey was supposed to be pleasant, but if Corson found this unpleasant, we were probably going to hate every second of it. At least whatever was in there wouldn’t kill us, always a bonus.

Excerpt 3:

“Only resting for a bit,” Corson told her with a dismissive wave of his hand.
“This isn’t your place!” the woman insisted.
Corson waved us toward the stools at the counter. “Have a seat.”
The occupants of those stools shot him nasty looks and folded their arms over their chests. They weren’t going to vacate their seats, and I wasn’t about to try to make them. We didn’t move. I didn’t think any of us dared to as the woman approached us with a thunderous expression on her face.
“You’re not welcome here!” she yelled.
“You have two choices,” Corson bit out at her. “You let us sit and wait peacefully, or she,” he thrust his thumb over his shoulder at me, “burns this place to the ground. Pick your poison.”
“Corson!” I hissed, unwilling to piss off anything in this building. I had no idea what they might be capable of doing if they were pushed.

Teasers and Excerpts from Carved!

*****Carved Excerpt*****
My gaze roamed over the room, my heart leaping and crashing in such a strange way I wondered if I was having some kind of heart attack. Everywhere I looked, the faces of angels stared back at me. There weren’t merely one or two of them, not even a dozen or so, but hundreds, perhaps thousands of them lining the floor-to-ceiling shelves of the room.
All of the angels’ little cherubic faces were dusty, but I could still make out their different expressions and poses. Most of them were in prayer, some had their wings stretched outward, and others were playing with each other with clouds beneath their feet. Some were porcelain dolls, others were miniatures, and more than a few had been hand-carved and painted.
I’d never seen anything like it. They were beautifully strange, yet something about them made my skin crawl. There were so many.
Beside me, Corson’s mouth hung open. His eyes surveyed the room as if the angels were going to come to life and fly at him. After everything I’d seen since leaving my normal life behind, I wouldn’t be surprised if they did come alive, but I didn’t think it was going to happen. At least, I really hoped it didn’t. I didn’t believe that whatever had drawn me here was bad, but I couldn’t think of anything more terrifying than these figurines coming to life right now.

Cover Reveal!

The Road (The Road to Hell Series, Book 3) is releasing 1/3/17!

River,
Standing at the edge of the gateway, I understand two things… One, I have no idea what I’m doing and two, the gateway to Hell is not closing. Now, there may be only one option left to me, to all of us. I may have to enter the one place I’d hoped to avoid throughout this journey. I may have to enter Hell.
Unfortunately, a change in events takes the choice away from me.

Kobal,
I always knew the idea of River entering into Hell could become a reality, but I expected her to be by my side when, or if, it happened. I expected to be there to protect her, but she’s gone in alone. Now, not only am I trying to catch up with her, but I know Lucifer will soon learn of her entrance into my world, and he will be after her too.

I just don’t know which one of us will reach her first.
